I got a chance to see Robben Ford live a few weeks ago and I was really impressed. So then i looked around tube and found some old vids (Robben has been around since the 60's) and i was even more impressed and he's played with a lot of ppl in a lot of places.

Edit: just noticed something in tube... check Robben Ford at ...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyXXMwKK … re=related  then add: &fmt=18
to the end of the url to get high res and stereo. Not seen that mentioned before.

Cheers,

I really dont have 5 people i look up to, but i have a couple.

John Meyer and Carlos Santana are my heros.
They make great music, AND they have those skills.
Wishing i could be like that someday.

iT'S INTERESTING NOBODY SAID James Burdon,  He was really hot in the 50's,60's, 70's rock  field. Played behind Ricky Nelson, andELvis. There are al large  group of jazz pickers you guys should listen to, Kenny Burrell comes to mind,Wes Montgomery, is another,   these guys wrote the book, not just played from it...

don't b flat, don't b sharp= just B natural!!!!

Very surprising no mention of Eddie Van Halen or Billy Gibbons or Allan Holdsworth or Steve Morse or Steve Lukather or George Harrison.

Thomas Youngblood (Kamelot) - He is so melodic and while capable of over done shredstyle soloing typically he chooses not to and prefers melodic/hook style soling.

Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big, Solo, United States) - While he is known as a shredder I like his uniqueness...his style is very patterned very classic rock meats neoclassical....he is the best teacher I have ever seen he can break down so far a baby would understand.

John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Solo) - Known for his technical prowess and his stamina he is more of an athlete than a musician...however recently I become aware of beautiful heart wrenching melodic passages in newer DT songs...and that abilty is hard to find in someone who is typically technical....I admire his complete control over his right hand.

Marty Friedman (Cacophony, Megadeth, Solo) - Note choice, Note choice, and Note choice....his style of playing so unque such melodic control...you can hear the chords even when there isnt any even tho the notes are whizzing by.

Dave Mustaine (Metallica, Megadeth) - My favorite rhythm player of all time..his leads need help, but he revolutionized rhythm guitar with his spider technique

The Hardest part of letting go.....
