Anyone have an idea which amp comes close to producing the sounds of the Ventures in the early 1960's
Im not really sure but it was most likly a tube amp of some sort and maybe a chorus pedal ....But im not sure...
Ok i did some research and found that the ventures used a Fuzz Box for the sound they had But still no amps that they used ......Im almost positive it was a marshall tho...that was a typical amp in that era.....
NYJazz,
I believe Hoss would be correct in stating they used tube amps (since Solid State did not yet widely excist in this market). However I think what made the sound more than anything else was the type of guitars that were used the most in that style of music.. Those being mainly:
Fender:
Jaguar
Telecaster
Jazz Master
and on some occasions the Mustang.

...I looked at my old (!) Ventures LP's but didn't see any amps, but I'm guessing they used Fender amps on their recordings, because that's what they used in Japan on stage (GOOGLE: Ventures+Japan tour).
...rather interestingly, their No.1 hit "Walk, Don't Run" had one guy playing a Gibson ES-335 model guitar, at least that's what the album cover would lead you to believe.
thanks every one for the replies... in regads to to the album cover showing a Gibson. In an interview, one of the Ventures mentioned that the picture on the album cover of the Walk Don't Run Album was not the ventures but some studio guys. The Ventures were not avail for the photo shoot. Some guys just picked up what guitars that were there and shot the photo for the cover.
If thats true about the album cover being studio guys, I'm wondering if they could have been a few members of the "Wrecking Crew"?. I'm fairly certain Tommy Tedesco played an es-335, could be him on the cover...
I dont have the album, so I cant do any photo comparisons, but that would be interesting to check in to.
Maybe you or Otm could google up a pic of tedesco, and compair it to the album cover?
Just a thought..........
If you guys never heard of the wrecking crew, heres a link that gives some back ground on them.

...hey! we almost have a "mutany" quorum...69Jaguar and NewYorkJazzmaster...and *I* "had" two different Jazzmasters years ago, both White with tortoise-shell pickguards (a '65 and a '68 with square block inlays).
...now, just a Tele and a ES-135LE and a couple Ovations:
