Like many, I started playing at the age of seven. My
mom and dad sang and my dad played the guitar to
accompany them, so I can remember hearing them
ever since I was a little baby. Now, I have played guitar
for many years, as a form of expression, social
interaction and a feeling of satisfaction and
accomplishment when I learn something new on the
guitar. Even the smell of some of my guitars and amps
conjure up old fond memories.

Well spoken Scott...and i think the guitar and amp manufacturers are adding scent for just that reason. When i open my Fender case I'm always
reminded of something from my distant past but i don't know what it is....yet.
Cheers,

in 7th grade my teacher had a guitar and he would let us play it and sometimes teach us some things, but i never really bought a guitar. my aunt left one, at our house (she was a lefty) and forgot about it. I would just be messing around with it until my aunt bought me strings. I blindly changed the strings (with no instructions
) and came to this site to tune it. ever since then ive just been teaching my self how to play and im starting to get the hang of it. If i get time i might consider lessons just to take it to the next level.

Growing up, my grandpa, dad, and 6 uncles all played the guitar among other instruments. All of them play just about anything, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, banjolin, harmonica, jew's harp, slide guitar just to name a few. Family reunions is where I we got to see all these instruments played together. talk about some jam sessions ! As a kid I just "noodled" around on dad's guitar every great once in a while. I really didn't get interested in it until about 20 years ago when my dad bought me my first guitar, a classical. I still have it. I still say they are among the best to learn on. over the next 18 years I mostly just "noodled" around on it every once in a while and had a lot false starts. I really never had the motivation to overcome those first couple of plateaus. I think a lot of beginner guitar players have difficulty with this, but once they are overcome the rest is all downhill. It's becomes a lot easier and a whole lot funner. I also bought a seagull 12 string during this time about 10 years ago.
A little over two years ago a friend of mine came over to the house and brought his guitar. I had just bought my first electric guitar around this time. My first real jam session and I was hooked for life. It's fun to play a guitar by myself. It's a blast to play with others. I mean to tell ya, when we are in the "groove", "in the pocket", got the mojo going I get goosebumps. Now I have several friends that I play with. Sometimes all at the same time and other times with just one or two of them.
I also came across the "chordbook' sometime during this time. That is when I really started learning different techniques that I get to "bring to the plate". I find that the more I play my guitar the more I want to play my guitar. I can sit for hours upon hours playing that thing and never gets old. Well, as much time playing it as life's obligations allow anyways. At this time I have 5 different guitars that are very different from one another and I play em all !!!!
The part that really bothers me is that by the time I became captivated with the guitar and got to love jam sessions, my dad became ill and wheelchair bound and can no longer play. He has an electric wheel chair and cannot control his body movements very well. I would just about trade anything to go back in time and jam with my dad. Before my dad became ill I was never really interested enough to increase my skill level enough to be able to participate in a good solid jam session. I never got to jam with my dad and it breaks my heart. About all I can do now now drive to his house at least once a week and play for my dad.

Aww jeese. Where to start?
Okay, church band inspired me.
Praise God.
Play some jams and act like a Guitar God.
Also Chordbook inspired me. I went on this site months before I got a guitar.
On this site is where I learned a guitar was an instrument sent from the Heavens.
I became obsessed with guitar from chordbook.
And definitely for the girls... xD
Edit: nice topic, Hoss!!!

I started to play guitar because the Beatles played guitar. Plain and simple.
If they had all been playing tubas or the zither that's probably what I'd be playing now. ![]()

So....I have been singing my entire life....as a young child I played recorder and had a zillion different keyboards and pianos and such...Ive always been musical. Took up Violin in Grade school....Dropped it in High School to Join the Choir...went to State Choir PLaced as a Finalist 2 out of my 4 years for operatic solo. Well In highschool a friend of mine played this metal CD for me...it was unlike anything I had ever heard before, the solos the drumming I was hooked. See I was raised on Classical so Technical skill has always been important to me. None of the Classic Rock or hard Rock or anything really held my interest it was too basic. Metal Made me want to play guitar.
