hey guys i just learned pinch harmonics. i feel so excited!! things LOOK real difficult at first, but afterwards they become so much easier, this is what i love about the guitar. i will continue practicing this, and cut off some time from my regular chromatic speed exercises... also, yesterday i was trying sweep picking practicing... things will get pretty easier eventually i hope.. smile
pinch harmonics are really easy to do on the 3rd string, and quite easy on the 1st and 2nd strings, for me. but i am having trouble doing them on the 3 low strings. so, are they supposed to be difficult on 4, 5 and 6 strings, or are they NOT supposed to be played on 4, 5, 6 strings?? i don't know..
PLEASE HELP!

you can play em on any string, they are just harder on the thinner strings (for me at least).

also, there are different harmonic "nodes" along the string where you can get different harmonics. try for instance playing a pinch harmonic on the 3rd fret of the a string and move your pick hand up and down the string between the neck and the bridge. you should hear different harmonics in some spots, and other spots where you cant get harmonics. so also, if you cant get harmonics on a particular string, try moving your pick hand around a bit and it might help.

hopefully this made sense haha if not let me no and i will do my best to clarify.

Hello zuhairreza, i checked some links off google and found that getting pinch harmonics on strings 6, 5, and 4 is about finding the sweet spot on the string you choose. Apparently selecting the bridge pickup is key.  Also mentioned was having the tone knob turned up..you might experiment with those tricks. Also, here's a link for a whole bunch of pinch lessons and tutorials.   http://www.google.com/search?hl=en& … mp;aqi=g10 Of the three or four that i checked, this one  http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/guita … ics-148150 was the best but there are a lot more tuts to choose from.  Hope this helps.

yeah, guitarzen and metalriffzach know where it's at.

i find the high E and B string the hardest to do pinch harmonics on.

you basically have to pinch but in the correct places on the guitar with your picking hand. you can get a fair few different sounds from one note but pinched in different places. some will sound better than others. and this also varies from guitar to guitar! knowing your guitar is key here. but once you've got it you've got it and it's all kool

another critical factor is the height of your pick ups... too close to the strings and you'll cancel all harms.

thanks guys.
With regards to GuitarZen, thanks for the links. i mostly use the bridge pickup, but turning the tone knob all the way up provided good results> better pinch harmonics sound. a much more cooler wail. thanks for the links, and also, I didnt know about this sweetspot thing, so thanks again!
GuitarFreak, u are right, some sound better than others, and not all are the same. yes they are also guitar dependant. And metalriffzach, I perfectly understood what u meant smile, and yes, pinch harmonics DO sound diffferent depending where i pick on the string, it seems. thanks for letting me know something i had not realized!!!
things are starting to make more sense. lol.
again, thanks ALL. smile

I play these alot different than most people...some people nust kinda get there thumb into the string and wail I cant do this...I jsut get a really noisy gross pick sound....I actaully Up stroke and twist the string between my thumb and pickthe release its really brutal sounding.

Hi wiggs, did you read the entire thread? There are a couple of links to lessons. Also, if you Google 'pinch harmonics' like i did, you'll find information that way too.

Good luck !
