I think that happened more then once.
i think i was the one always writing stuff down.
dang it was confusing, people kept on changing lyrics.
but it really mattered on if everyone liked what.
So im waiting on who will start the first song.
and see what we end up with.
Cant Wait!

Morty could quite possibly mean 'mettle' and as defined by Merriam Webster, would mean:
1 a : vigor and strength of spirit or temperament b : staying quality : stamina
2 : quality of temperament or disposition
Synonym : Courage

I write a lot of songs based on a number different things. For instance, I wrote a great song called "Birds on Roofs" because there are these terribly annoying birds on my roof! It's a very heart felt song, here are the lyrics
G, C, Em, G, and D
Verse 1
I can see the birds on the roofs
Cooing like birds do
While I sit back (and relax)
I stumble upon one (On the ground)
It looks at me and I look back to see where I went wrong
Chorus
Birds on Roofs, Birds on roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Birds on Roofs, Bird on Roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Verse 2
I can see you in my dreams
Doing what you love to do
Is it me or am I there at all?
Chorus 2
Birds on Roofs, Birds on roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Birds on Roofs, Bird on Roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Verse 3
I can see the birds on the roofs
Cooing like birds do
While I sit back (and relax)
I stumble upon one (On the ground)
It looks at me and I look back to see where I went wrong
Chorus 3
Birds on Roofs, Birds on roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Birds on Roofs, Bird on Roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Bridge/Musical Interlude
Chorus 4&5
Birds on Roofs, Birds on roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Birds on Roofs, Bird on Roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Birds on Roofs, Birds on roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you
Birds on Roofs, Bird on Roofs
I was wrong not to see the truth in you

wow i don't see how people write lyrics over nothing O_o ... everything i've always done is linked to my emotional state of being, imaginary situations brought up by deeper feelings. i think every song i've ever tried to write has been about a girl or a fight. i can see how that'd get repetitive after a while but i also did one about a windmill. comparing life to the overall turning off the ... whatever those things that spin out front are called ... pushed and pulled by forces we cant control ... deep stuff really

With the few songs that I have written, I used real situations (good, bad or otherwise) intertwined with radom, hypothetical stories. This made my lyrics wide open to interpretation, but only I know the real meaning of the song. Its just a play on words for the most part, but tends to make it more interesting simply by its obscurity... John Lennon was a master at messing with peoples heads after people tried to read all sorts of meanings into Beatles lyrics.
Just some food for thought....

nice
, and yeah i suppose some real meaning stand behind mine as well, yet most, as stated before, are just images, dreams

I just jam with my band, and we improvise for half an hour or so, and then we pick up some riffs that we liked. And then work on that. We write the lyrics later. :]

I think the Songwriting Forum is a great idea. Been talking to musician friends about this for the past year - there are different approaches, of course. One guy is a 'words' guy - the words come first. Another guy is a 'groove' guy - he'll need to feel a rhythm and progression first. Not sure how I'll finally feel comfortable writing songs. I do keep a notebook with me and try to write something every day. Sometimes - usually late at night when the day has wound down - I'll pick up a guitar and throw a simple progression at some of the things I've written down. If it feels like it kind of works I'll write chord symbols into the lines of words. That's all so far. Hope to hear from more of you about how it is going.

Hello and welcome to chordbook mqmurphy, well so far for me all i write down are the names of the songs i plan on writing and i have enough for a whole album, but so far beyond that, i'm not inspired as to theme even suggested by the name or any lyrics. Not sure what that will take, perhaps collabaration.
Good luck with your first song !

I live in the bible belt, and oh man, that would really isolate me good!

I'm an acoustic man and only just discovered the beautiful sounds around the D chord ie: Dsus2 Dsus4. Simple but quite sweet!

Welcome to chordbook steerpike, like you, i work with the D maj chord and the chords around it. Try a D+... X X 0 2 3 3. I hold the basic Dmaj open chord then when i want the D+ i just drop the pinky on the G string, 3rd fret. From there you can slide the pinky up to the fourth fret on the G string and you'll have a Bm without changing anything else. Makes for a nice little progression. Thanks for your contribution today steerpike !

Nice one Zen! The D+ progression is nice, saves me barring a Bm at 2nd which is a habit I find hard to break. Can I ask advice on guitars here?

Hello again steerpike, well you can...sure but more would see the thread if you ask for advice in the beginners section. Others would prolly chime in also with their ideas. I'll watch for your post and help if i can. Glad you liked the D+ progression, there's a million like that. Remind me in the beginners section and i'll give you another popular + chord progression to work with.
Don't give up on the chat...afternoons pst are good.

To me it's crazy how simple some lyrics are in a song. I listen close to the words and if I can't hear them I download the lyrics. When I think of the millions of dollars someone makes over a period of a life time with just one song it just blows me away. This is a lousey example because there are better ones but think back to Acky Breaky Heart. I had friends at RCA who turned Cyruss down several times finally telling him to never come back in there with that crap again. He went to MCA and you see what happened! Mention it to RCA folks and they just hang their heads. I wonder if when the writer composes a songs are they doing it for the potential money to be made, or for just the love of writing or to say something important? I wish I could come up with something. It's a hard business to get in and a lot of young songwriters get beat but man, once they get that foot in the door they never have to worry about much of nothing anymore.
