Hi! I am new to this forum.
I am learning guitar late in life, but have always wanted to play. I have been studying chords, scales, and theory. One thing I would like to know is how do you know which chords to play with a melody line, and which other notes can be played with a melody note?
For example, say I can pick out the melody line on the guitar. How can I know which other notes and chords I can play along with the melody?
Also, would anyone please do me a favor and record an mp3 file of guitar playing to email to me? I would like a recording that is not on YouTube of a couple of songs I like.
Thanks.
you just have to know the key the melodt is in.....But if you look around in the forums theres a guy on here called oldteleman that post athat kinda stuff and im sure he has posted the answer to your question several times. Theres another guy named jag that can prolly help you to ,im mostly just guessing ......And Welcome to chordbook hit up the chatroom sometime there may be a person or two that can help with your questions...O and one more thing its NEVER to late to start until you never did.....

Which melody line are we talking about? Or more specifically, the melody line from which piece of music? Maybe I skipped something in my self teaching of music theory but I was thinking that there are no formulas for melody because we all hear melodies in what ever type of music we like. However, if your looking at creating your own melodies the easiest way to do that is to only use the chords from 1 key: I major, II minor, III minor, IV major, V 7th, VI minor, VII dim. It should be easy to create melodies using chords in that format. Let me know what songs you want on mp3 and maybe I can help with that. BTW welcome to chordbook!
