BEGINNING GUITARIST TRYING TO FIND GOOD TONES.  HAS ANYONE TRIED TO MIX A PASSIVE EMG WITH A
DUNCAN 59.  I LIKE MOSTLY HARD ROCK TO HEAVY METAL,BUT DONT WANT TO USE ACTIVE PUPS.  HAVE AN
EPIPHONE LES PAUL TO  START WITH/ I LIKE BOTH PUPS BUT NOT SURE ABOUT MATCHING THEM UP.  ALSO
IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME IF I SHOULD WIRE THEM ACCORDING TO EMG OR SEYMOUR DUNCAN DIAGRAMS.
THEY PLACE THEIR CAPACITORS IN DIFFERENT LOCATION. THANK YOU

RAFL,
Welcome to chord book.  ( Saw your other post )
As far as mix and match pup-wise, I think Bobo would be the one to best answer that.  As far as the circuitry, I would have to see the diagrams as to the cap placments to be able to tell what effect that would have on the circuit.

Jim,
Thanks for the welcome.  Been unable to copy diagrams to forum, but i can tell u emg places the cap between each
vol/tone pot(hot to vol then through .047 uf cap to tone terminal).  Seymour Duncan places cap after tone pot(hot to
vol then to tone out to .047 uf cap then grounded.  Or in reality should I wait until my playing improves and save to get a
better guitar.  A friend of mine had a cheap strat copy and put dial hums in it and it sounded great although harmonics were
a little tough, but I think his pup height was too high. My harmonics sound pretty good but I do get some buzz about the 10th fret.
thanks again, rafl

I have a guitar with a EMG HZ4 and a Dimarzio D-Activator (different brands, both passive). The guitar came with two Dimarzios in it and I just took the bridge out and soldered in the quick connect cable. The capacitor is in the original location.

You should be ok with the Duncan wiring. I've only seen the cap between pots like that with active pickups. As long as you get hot and ground on the EMG in the right spots you should be ok.

I done told you already... you have to scoop the mids!

Welcome RAFL, although i'm much honored by Jim's opinion of my hardware knowledge, Shaidtan is the expert in that field and seeing as how he already answered I'll just leave my post as a welcome to the new guy.
