Guys Im almost done with my Fade to Black cover. Been learning this for around 4 months now..(only the third solo left now)......on and off, not particularly seriously..thus the long time...
the very ending section of the outro solo (after those long pairs of notes and hammer ons) becomes extremely fast, and Guitar Pro says the speed is 144 bpm. I cannot keep up with that.
If any of you covered the solo, or the song, what type of picking is used there, near the very end of the solo? alternate picking seems hard, maybe sweep? a mix of the two, where best fits?

as a general rule most players pick less often as they pick up speed. Ritchie Blackmore is really the only player I can think of who will pick out each note even as he goes faster and faster. If you want my opinion I'd say a sweep pick is faster than an alternate pick. The part of Fade that your talking about is hammer/ pull trills changing into hammer/pull quads which needs almost no picking at all. I may be at the wrong part of the solo as well.

Guys I hope someone can just tell me the TYPE of picking that best helps to play that section of the solo as perfect as possible. Any other advice is also welcome. I have uploaded a screenshot of the fade to black tab on guitar Pro, WITH THAT SECTION UNDERLINED IN BLACK. heres the link

most of metallica's fast stuff is legato, which is just hammer ons and pull offs with very little picking
