well as far as playing punk goes...learn power chords...then learn the I IV V progression or some times I IV VII all powerchords tho so like.....A5 D5 E5 all palm muted......very punk rock....or E5 A5 D5....try that one...its pretty cool....E5 B5 D5 A5...that one is my favorite...all palm mutes....just have some fun with it....its punk 101...

how did i miss this post? punk rock my specialty i like how you went from sum 41 to poison
kinda a funny jump but looking back on my cd collection sum 41 was pretty good but like most
bands they probably wrote all the songs previous to getting singed and after the first couple rocking albums
they where kinda in a pinch with the studio on their back and just fizzled out.
but here is the best way imagine every song you have ever heard as a punk song.
then find the chord progression the simplify it so it is so pain stakingly easy.
like that taylor swift song you belong with me general pop song
now the chords are like D A Em G and the original varries between palm muting
and open. so then play everything as a power chord and most importantly speed it
the heck up and you will be very entertaining!
check out the band Me first and the gimme gimmes they only cover songs
and make everything into a punk cover very fun
good luck

I write tons of songs (my bands Youtube is http://www.youtube.com/user/daybyday12music ) and writing punk? Power chords palm muted for verses, mess around 'til you get a cool riff for an intro and chorus, learn some easy blues or pentatonic and go up and down them to make a solo/outro. It's that simple! Emaj7 is a pretty and rock sounding chord, look it up here if you don't know it, and definatly helps get a bass riff going. Again btw, my Youtube is http://www.youtube.com/user/daybyday12music Any questions please direct to my bands e-mail @ day.by.day.music12@gmail.com
