So here is whats happening. recently won a bid for an
fender bassman cab 4X10. its seems rad says it can handle round
750 and 350 continuously at 8ohmns well my math sucks
and am i the only one who is confused about this ohmns business?
Most amps heads are listed by watts at a given ohmn which is resistance
example 200 watts at 4ohmns is 120 watts 8ohmns

the cabinets says it handles 350 at 8ohmns so how much power do i need
if i get the 200 watt head and it pushes 120 is that going to be enough to
push it over a set of drums and two other half stacks playing at once
this funky mess ain't cheap so i want to make sure i get it right the first time.

And i don't wanna just go for a 1000watt amp and push too much into the cab.

What seems like a good solutions as far as watts go and does any
body have any good brand suggestions?

at least my mom thinks i play good

You bring up a good point civicstar, here's what i'll be doing when i win a bid on a cab that i don't know what to run through it.

I'll contact Fender here:  http://fender.com/support/consumer_relations.php

You'll notice you can contact them a number of ways. You could also register and post on in the amp forum and ask what you'll want to run. I've done that a few times now and gotten good honest answers from the troops.

Another way is to 'try before you buy' at your local music store that sells amps...Fender dealers can be found here: http://fender.com/dealerfinder/

Either way will work and i suppose you could try friend's amps/heads to find out what you need to fit what you're going to do with a 4x10. Beyond that, i can't help you with the watts/ohmns thing. Some ppl here can though and maybe they'll jump in. I will take a guess though, that if you have an amp that's a window rattler now, it could work through the bassman cab just fine. The 4x10 amp i'm looking at shows 60 amps and Cricketrider has one...maybe he'll chime in too with how many windows he's broken so far. Good luck civic !

Cheers,

wish i could help. while i have a 4x10  it is a combo i have sixty tube watts and i know nothing of how ohms work in reference to amps. i am pretty sure i can add another 4x10 cab. but my amp is a combo not a stack if i put  it on another cab i wouldn't be able to reach the knobs as they are on top ( i guess just set them on twelve and stand back). I have seen those little black heart heads push a great big 4x10.
SO no i am confused by the ohms ratings and wattage to my amp says 300 watts but is rated at 60 tube watts i am guessing the power supply comes in at 300 watts and the tubes cook it down to 60 out put watts. but i think it would break the speakers at about 7 of 12.
i cant wait till jaguar 69 gets around to setting us straight on this topic he may not even have to do any research he probably has the knowledge of the top of his head. if were lucky enough to get an answer.
when he does answer be sure that it will be pretty accurate. as i have previous experience with his electiral knowledge.

Every rule has an exception. Especially this one.
if my calculations are correct SLINKY + ESCULATOR = EVERLASTING FUN

Civ,
I need alittle more info before I get into how to calculate speaker resistance for you.
I need the amp output rating in watts "RMS" and "PEAK" into 8 ohms.
Is the amp rated to handle a 4 ohm load?
I need to know the individual wattage and ohms rating for each speaker in the cabinet.

The description of the item the fender bass man 410 didn't say to much
just that it was in working condition and the speakers where not blown
so i will really have to see when it gets shipped here.
is there a basic kinda chart you have a like too jaguar that might
give me a little but of a clue on it with out knowing the RMS and Peak?

my friend also found a great deal on a head for it
its a hartke 5500 and that like like 500 or 550 watts at 4ohmns
so i think that if we don't push it all crazy like to 11
it should be loud enough and last.

a friend of mine said he had one the bass head that is
and suggested setting the solid state portion on 7 and
the tube portion on 4.

i have also noticed what cricket said about the tubes beside having better tone i guess then
solid state lower watts like 60 will push a 410 cab where i tried a 60 watt solid state
head on a half stack and it was barely as loud as my alarm clock with distortion pedal
and volume on max

at least my mom thinks i play good
