either one of those guitars cost more than my whole rig. i have jammed some martins and ovations i like them both alot. the martin stuck in my mind as the easiest playing acoustic i have ever played and it sounded great. the ovation i played was theier less expensive classical and it was also a nice guitar i really liked the plastic body on the guitar too with the round back it makes the instrument easy to hold when sitting down. If i were facing that decision i think i would go for the martin reason being i think that they are more likely to increase in value over time than the ovations which are slightly more mass production than the martins. if you can affourd one you should just get them both as they are two different type guitars.

...although I only own one brand (two Ovations), I played both (Martin and Ovation) extensively before I bought my first Ovation.
SUMMARY:
* Martin is the epitome of "true" acoustic sound--loud, clear and very woody; neck feels "clubby" to my hands; it's a "singers" guitar.
* Ovation is close, but does not have nearly the "true" acoustic sound of a Martin; neck is "comfortably fast" (like my Telecaster); it's a "players" guitar.
