(I'm 15) I was wondering.... I've barely got my band started and we're just now in the mix of making a demo CD. We've gotten few opportunities to play live, so can anyone give me advice on getting gigs and venues?

Sure crazsim, think 'Parks And Recreation', senior homes, hospitals, daycare centers, malls etc....in other words, volunteer to play for ppl that may not otherwise be able to afford to go to a concert as such. In no time...provided you're band is good...(you will be auditioned most likely by anyone that you approach to play their venue) ...you will be the talk of the town. Short of my idea, have you tried looking for an agent?

We do search for agents but we're unsure of how much that would cost or where to find someone.

Then I'll presume you've not spoken with an agent and in that case, revert to the front part of my previous post...i mean i'm thinking that if you want to 'get out there', you're going to have to play 'somewhere' even if it's for free. I'm not sure but i don't think many bands started with no exposure before an agent or label would sign them...though i'm sure there are exceptions but then again, think 'audition'...have you tried posting craiglist to get a gig (again, even if you play for free) ?

Cheers,

We've now gotten a gig @ the Phix in Phoenix, opening up for a friend of my lead singer. Lucky, we'll probably get to do well over 5 songs, most likely 7, which isn't a bad trade for our 1st gig. Hopefully this will start us on a good note and we'll be able to get a lot more gigs and a label, and an agent. It is troubling my lead singer knows nothing of playing and she can only sing. Will that be a problem down the line? From what I heard, MJ didn't know music either and then he turned music upside down. My lead singer and of course my good friend Marlee has posted that somewhere on Craigslist (if i can ever find it on there) and I should also add there and here, that we're looking for drummer. Obviously this site is home to a few different guitarist, but do you know anyone who can play drums at least a little bit? I can play pretty well but I'm the lead guitarist! smile

You sure ask great questions craz ! I don't know a single drummer in AZ and about the singer, well if she wants to play music someday i suppose she will. Mick does now and Ringo might even be able to read music for all i know. Shoot, if you have a gig in Phoenix i'd say you're on the way ! Keep at it soon to be superstar !
