So you've learned all the major and minor chords, gone through the scales, and a made a little riff and chord progression. Maybe some of your colleges even gotten a baseline and drum beat down for you. But how do you throw that all together and make music? Well, for starters, you should know what KEY you're all playing in. Unless you're playing percussion, KEY is an important factor in making music. If your baseline is in the KEY of something as ridiculous as F#, but your rhythm and lead guitars are playing in the simple KEY of C, it won't sound very well put together usually, least you're tone deaf. There are ways you can change your baseline to fit the KEY of C by simply taking the notes, switching them around, and fixing it. This does take a matter of time though, so for all intense purposes, if you've got everything ready to go but the baseline in the KEY of C, just make a new baseline in the KEY of C. The way to put it all together and get a song depends on the genre 1st of all.
As i said in an earlier post, there are a million and 1 (and growing!) genres of music! But it's what you choose to write. If you're writing Grunge music, try going for some light intros, a little funky baseline, and some scary lyrics. Don't shy away from fast paste, hard core drums either! Sound garden not your thing? Go Megadeath on their (the fans) as*es and do Metal! You'll need some seriously heavy shredding on the guitar and bass if you wish to succeed in this genre. Knowing how to solo and tap can be a big bonus for this genre, but the drums can be both a little heavy and sluggish. You could try pop, but that WILL make listing to other genres quite difficult.... wink. Pop will need funny, romantic, or "cool" lyrics, a cute little acoustic riff, simple drums, and a low baseline. Probably the best genre for beginners would be Pop and Rock. Now, for Rock, all genres are definitive peanut butter except Country. Rock=Pop, Metal, Grunge, Blues Grass, etc. Country=Country, period. Jk, and you can combine genres to create a whole new funky class, but no matter what, said genre may turn out to be a placement for your song on "Rock Band", or it may be Alternative. Of course, you could always go Beethoven and do classical music But please, don't expect to be Mozart and rock out head banging to 1900 piano "riffs".
2ndly you need willing participants. NEVER pick someone who wants to play Jazz if you play Indie Rock; even if you need him/her. There are tons of people out there who are willing to play your genre and play the instrument you need, for example a lead vocalist. Someone who sings like R. Kelly may not make the cut for singing Country. You can always also sing and play an instrument, even if you are bassist or drummer. Commonly though rhythm guitarists and general pianists sing and play on stage or in the recording studio.
3rdly cover bands never get big, that's that. They don't. Granted, there are plenty of bands who do cover and are OK, but they are not Metallica big.
So, in conclusion, there are a lot of ways to make music. I hope this helped, i may add more if I think of anything, Thanks for reading and PLEASE subscribe to me on Youtube.

well where do we start on this one i guess from the top down. Pace is spelled pace paste is glue typically used in elementary schools
cause its easy to clean up. next the key of the baseline and the drums don't have a key. well the rhythm section as a whole
bass and drums are supposed to play together if you look at lots of old music lets say the oldies classic stand by me the bass line
beautiful and although it has a key the point is to set the beat and everything else is layered on top including the sick triangle part.
you like youtube watch the ben E king vid.
there is a lot more music theory involved it good music then you give it credit for. more then play a slow intro or metal drum parts.
I remember we discussed what time signatures where
just a little while back. And while it is simple for all the instruments to be in the same key it is rad when you break from tradition and play
in related keys i worked out a song where the bass plays F# G A G# where the lead guitar is playing B G A A# and it comes together in
this dark harmony very nice.
And as for genres those are nothing but words like the tags on the backs of shirts sm med lrg so they can sell them to different people
music you play what you dig. And when i put my personal band together i tried to find people who where as different musically as i
could. Id love to have a country singer a funk/reggae bassist the drummer from Rush and a metal rhythm guitarist and a classical lead guitarist
i could kick out he jams from that combo. But like i said people who you find who play a different genre/style don't usually dislike other styles well
country western people aren't typically the biggest fans of Mexican techno or death metal but hey whose judging. But i can play punk
power chord progressions just one after the other to alleviate this redundant nature of mine i found myself a metal lead guitarist
kinda of a punk hardcore drummer a bassist who enjoys funk all though he can't play it and a melodic singer cause i feel people will dig
understanding the lyrics we work so hard to write. with this combination i have expanded my simple music knowledge from punk
to all the other styles my band mates know how to do well.
And cover bands get under my skin too i like that they are so skilled they can play many different types of songs
but i hate hearing a chick vocalist sing a really hard song when she doesn't have the bass in her voice to belt it out the way
it should be played. and whats worse where i live people want to hear covers its like listening to a live band play the radio
songs from the 90s you know now thats music volume 83 and they get paid hundreds of dollars like typically 400 and original
bands can drive half way around California play a show and hope to get gas money home
