im looking into buying a new amp. i found a marshall head, the mg100hfx, for $350 at guitar center. does anyone know anything about it? it has some good reviews on guitar centers website, but there are a few things that im looking for in it. i play hard rock, metal, neoclassical, and a little blues, but the first 2 are my main styles. ive also looked at an ibanez tbx150h for $250. id prefer a marshall when i can afford one.

the mb450h is nice, like the built in compressor and 4 band eq. modern/classic switch is nice too, but looks like its just the same thing as clean or lead. a little pricy, but it is a marshall. wait, i just read that its a BASS amp head?

I got the ibanez toneblaster 150h head and it rocks I play punk and thrash mostly and some folk but not with my electrics. But it has good distortion and you don't need a pedal even though I prefer the boss metal zone if I ever forgot it the head would already have what I need. It is easy to use and you got get the foot switch it sucks that it is sold seoperately. But it is really nice and there is a little storge compartment in the back of the head that holds the foot switch power cable and patch cable very niffty id say go for the ibanez its solid and reliable and no digital mess to fiddle with I got it off zzounds.com

And id love to drop thousands of dollars on a marshall full stack well maybe even a wall of marshalls 3 straight faced 412s high and one slant face and like 5 across leaving me with like 20 cabs off rocking power. But you can get a whole set up for less then 400 bucks that will be plenty loud and last. I got the toneblaster and a marshal cab for like 500 total. But you can get a decent cab for 100 bucks and a head for like 100 150 and be set

Id have to say I got lucky with most of my guitar buys. I got a 1960a lead cab marshall for 250 from a studio it was like new. And I picked up a behringher for 100 bucks and it has a decent sound and people seem to say it work well on the reviews. And id say avoid heads with too many settings and jazz that you don't really need and make your amp sound to digital and cold

If you're open to a pedal I'd try to find a Marshall Guv'nor. They're reputed as having a fairly authentic JCM800 sound.
Amp wise, you could go with a JCM800 or DSL2000 if you want to spend the money. If you're going for a good sound but don't want to spend the dough I'd second (or third?) looking into Line 6. I had a Spider III 75 watt head a while back and it sounded pretty damn good.
As always, go down to a music store and plug in to some amps. Find something you like. You may be surprised when some piece of gear you wouldn't normally think twice about comes along and blows you away.

For anyone that dont want 20 peddles to keep track of, here are a few pieces of gear that are the latest generation of what we used in the studio back in the early 90's. Every effect and effect combination you could possibly need. This is Pro gear and it aint cheap. The Lexicon unit is close to $1800.00 US$. But have a look. Sometimes its fun to dream.

As for multi-effects. Heres a rack mount thats abit cheaper:
If ya look under the parameters (top right box) and click "amps", you will see this thing will emulate the JCM800 and 900, along with many others.

I still have a PCM-70, and a Digatech TSR-24ms. They are abit complicated, but once ya figure them out, its a breeze.
Ya might want to look for one of those on e-bay or wherever..... Probably pick one up cheap.

thanks for making me wish i was rich jaguar, but im getting the boss gt-6. it has the effects i need, except id like to get a boss v-wah, dunlop cry rack wah, and rocktron talk box. im just looking for a nice cheap tube amp head now. and yeah the digitech rack has a lot of effects, but i dont really need it right now and digitech has too much of a digital sound.
