Haven't touched a guitar in about 30 yrs. I was looking thru youtube and watched a couple of videos by BlackDogBroon.. and "got the fever and there's only one cure"! Couple weeks ago I brought a 1994 acoustic Fender ag-25 and amp from a co-worker for $100. Cleaned it up, re-strung it and had at it. Dosen't sound too bad. Wouldn't you know; last night I was cutting a steak and sliced the tip of left index finger, Donned a Band-aid and finger cot and pressing on. I Like this site and am surprised how much I remembered and how much I need to re-learn. Looking foward to getting back up to speed with y'all! v/r John

Hey John..........Welcome. If there's anything you need to know or yak about, the people here are the ones to reply. I have ONE caution: Beware the Clowns. Sometimes you will need to sort out the BS from the real stuff. You'll eventually figure them out. Enjoy and Keep It Fun, Dean

Welcome to the site!
Bob Dylan
Cavett-..well when you mention the National Anthem and talk about playin it in any unorthodox way, you immediately get hate mail....
Hendrix- I didnt think it was unorthodox, I thought it was beautifull.....but there you go
I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes.
Jimi Hendrix
This is the strangest life I've ever known.

Thanks all for the welcome and Deans heads up; Getting in about an hour a morning practice since I work grave shift. I was in the Air Force. I recently retired after 24 years. The pic is of my B-52G, tail# 58-0176 aka 'Heavy Metal', I was her Crew Chief. She was retired and scrapped when the AF decided to keep only the B-52H models.

Welcome to the club John.
You seem like a nice guy, and i hope you stay in and keep in touch with all of us,
unlike the many that have gone and never come back.
Missed you in chat just by an hour,
but anyways,
this site is your #1 source to guitar theory and just about anything on guitars,![]()

Wow, I too haven't touched a guitar in about 30 years as well. Bought a small beginner Yamaha electric, second hand for $100 bucks and a Simon & Patrick acoustic. You have no idea how much joy these have given me. Hands aren't used to the stretches though, but I'll keep on persevering. Long live six strings (and twelve). Still trying to figure out a practice routine, tough to do alone. Lessons in future, arthritis and all......lol.

gfk54...........Be VERY careful. I started this git thing about 1 1/2 years ago at age 60. I started with a used Epi dread. Since then I got a case of GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrom) and bought a new Epi EL-00 parlour. My wife told me she had NO problem with #2............it's #s 3,4,5,etc that has her worried! Keep It Fun, Dean PS....I know what you mean about the arthritis thing..........gotta do some hand stretches before I start. AND, I've finally got a practice routine settled with input from these people. This is a great site. But the CLOWNS............

O.K., I started out with at least a dozen picks and now down to four. I didn't wear them out or throw them to a crowd of raving fans (that's a joke) and they aren't rattling around inside the body so...gremlins?

The tips of my fingers on my left hand are calloused. Is this a good thing?

Hello JoCLy52, yep, callouses are a good thing...well, up to a point. I was proud of my callouses at first then i learned that i was pressing too hard to make chords or to sound good clean notes. Even though i practice from 2 to 4 hours a day right now, my callouses aren't anywhere near as deep as they were 5 years ago. That said, callouses suggest you are practicing a fair amount. Our own Old Tele Man says it best though and i paraphrase: 'press just enough'. Doing so seems to give the best results and the cleanest chords and notes, not to mention less fatigue and finger tips that don't bleed !
