Hello jstnz14, welcome to the board...well, I'm a beginner and I may not be able to help but someone will. I have to ask though, are you trying to read fully scored...(hope that's the right term) sheet music and can you show an example here? I think most here  play from chords over lyrics style music or from what are called tabs. Let me know so I or someone that knows a lot more than I do will reply too.

Thanks. I read tabs and also use the chords over lyrics music but i heard the reading standard notation (fully scored) music improves playing abiltiy with an easier understanding of the music.

I won't be able to answer that, but I would think it would be great to be able to sight read standard notation, translating it to guitar and I'm betting it's something many can do in some way/ways so I'll be anxious to see someone respond with an answer !
