I am stuck.    Been working on a song.  The verse progression is   (F maj7, C maj7, A7, D maj11)  A sun soaked beach feel.   The chorus then rises up to (F maj7, G7, C, A7)
I am just trying to find a a good transition going back into the verse fromt he chorus.  Doesn't seem to work just going straight in..

...I'll grab my guitar when I get home and try progressions and see what I (might) come up with.

...also, what voicing/fingering are you using for the last verse chord, Dmaj11?

...just two notes?, ie: X, X, X, X, 2, 2.

...after playing an A7?: X, 0, 2, 2, 2, 3

Sorry I was at work, no guitar on hand.  I am doing this.
x,x,x,x,3,3

And the A7 is in the x,x,2,0,2,0 fingering.

OK, first the usual 'CAVEATS & DISCLAIMERS': (1) I don't know what KEY you're in, but assumed Key-of-C; (2) I don't know what TEMPO, so assumed moderately-SLOW; (3) I don't know the intended MELODY or LYRICS, so guessed...but, here's what I came up with:

ORIGINAL -- verse:  FM7, CM7, A7, Dmaj11...chorus:  FM7, G7, C, A7...turnaround:  (to be determined)

MAYBE#1 -- verse:  FM7, CM7, A7, Dmaj11...chorus:  FM7, G9, CM7, A9 ...turnaround:  Dm7, Dm7-5, Abdim7, CM7

MAYBE#2 -- verse:  FM7, CM7, A7, Dmaj11...chorus:  FM7, G9, CM7, A9 ...turnaround:  Dm7, E7+5, FM7

MAYBE#3 -- verse:  FM7, CM7, A7, Dmaj11...chorus:  FM7, G9, CM7, A9 ...turnaround:  Dm7, C7+5, FM7

...and, here are the fingerings I used:

...verse:
X, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0 = FM7
3, 3, 2, 0, 0, X = CM7
X, 0, 2, 0, 2, 0 = A7
X, X, 0, 2, 3, 3 = Dmaj11 <---(leads nicely into a Dm too: X, X, 0, 2, 3, 1)
...chorus:
X, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0 = FM7
X, 2, 3, 2, 3, X = G9(nr)
X, 3, 5, 4, 5, 3 = CM7
X, 4, 5, 4, 5, X = A9(nr)

...turnaround#1:
X, 5, 7, 5, 6, 5 = Dm7
X, 5, 6, 5, 6, X = Dm7-5
X, 5, 6, 4, 6, X = Abdim7
X, 3, 5, 4, 5, 3 = CM7...back to verse.

...turnaround#2:
X, X, 0, 2, 1, 1 = Dm7
X, X, 0, 1, 1, 0 = E7+5
X, X, 3, 2, 1, 0 = FM7...back to verse.

...turnaround#3A (at nut):
X, X, 0, 2, 1, 1 = Dm7
X, 1, 2, 1, 1, X = C7+5
X, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0 = FM7...back to verse.

...turnaround#3B (up neck):
X, 5, 7, 5, 6, 5 = Dm7
X, X, 8, 9, 9, 8 = C7+5
X, 8, 7, 5, 5, 5 = FM7...back to verse.

...although these might be "too jazzy" you get the tonal/movement ideas.

Not to hijack the thread, but I tried all of these chords and it was great practice ! Sounds good too, though I can only play it very slowly...I mean very slowly, but still great way to practice 'moving about the neck'.  I can see that you worked hard on this too because you show 'turnaround #38'.

...thanks. As the Spanish Proverb goes: "El ejercicio hace maestro," which loosely translates to: "Practice makes perfect."
