try out these patterns over the music your playing too and see if you can get one too fit in. If I knew what actual chord progressions you wanted to solo over, myself and others could be of more help to you. If you have a naturally developed ear for music then you'll know what sounds right. If not, then you need to start reading all the posts in this forum because you need to develop your ear and it not gonna be something that will happen in 5 minutes.
The following was moved from the the song writing forum. Originally posted by: Cricketrider.....
when i am soloing i focus on what key the song is in and experiment (for the purponse of improvising) with what pentatonic scales and what modes work over the song being played finding the root of the song and then figure out if a major or minor scale works with it and start figuring out key notes that work with the chords and the chord changes and start to branch out from there. . realize that there are many ways to skin this cat .... this is just one of them
some people use different chord voicings and play over the chords with them to create solos aka editing notes out of chords playing diades to get thick rich sounding solos.
my best advice is to find acouple notes that work and cranch out with some licks based on those notes see if you can get something to fit and work on variations of those riffs until you come up with something you like also you can look up otm topic on music theory for a full and accurate explanation of how notes work with chords..... it is in the main forum section at the top with a star in front of it as a sticky topic
hope this helps a little and gets you going (note this info is all subject to correction as i am a hack on the guitar... but i try really hard...)

I think the most important thing to remember about playing any music in church is that the music we play is in a completely separate category by itself . Every other category has its own styles etc but music played in church comes from a completely different angle .
I mean a TRULY christian music group is there to lead people to worship Jesus .If its there for getting compliments and its praise from those who hear them then it misses the point .
NOW TO THE PRACTICAL DETAILS .........If you want to play a solo to lift up Jesus you are already a winner ! And I may know a limited no. of chords styles etc .BUT its not what you dont know that matters , its using what you already know that matters . I can simply take time to practise and learn more .I need that . But when I simply say to Jesus " Help me to play something beautiful from me to you " then i have noticed that my playing gets better or more creative etc .I sit there at home saying to myself " where did that come from ? " ANSWER ...Jesus helped me do what I couldnt . The same principle should be used when playing in church ie real christian worship music is for HIM . Doing a solo in the middle of song means launching out following the music that leads out where you start then use some of what you know believing that god will help you .
In all new things there is a first time .But we have jesus on our side ........Thats why I said real christian church music is in a completely different category .And if you are not a born again christian yet read John chapter 3 verse 1 to 16 and ask Jesus to come into your heart and life .Then out from your heart will come your own music to God
Best Wishes ,
