I started by learning the basic notes on the first three frets of each string. Then I learned basic chords, E, Em, A, Am, B, C, D, F, G. Practice some simple songs using them so that you can start to get the hang of the basic chords. That's where I started. You could start of by learning scales. Just make sure that you know what notes are where.

Sephire,
First of all, welcome to chorbook..
The scales on bass guitar are the same as 6 string guitar, just 2 more strings, and your now in the "treble cleff" of the staff ( if you read notation). I would sugest learning the basic chords. The open forms of the Maj, min, and 7th. then take it from there. You have a head start having played the bass git for awhile. Your just an octave higher on the staff now.. Be patient.. All the chord forms are here on chordbook, along with the alternate ways to play them.
