Hmm.. that depends on what type of effect your looking for, if its your just looking for a cool sounding one to mess around with i would suggest a Wah Wah pedal.

This might help you a bit
Might not be the brand you want, but you can listen to the effects these stomp boxes pedals. I have bought pedals from here in the past because you can hear what they sound like. But it will give you idea. What kind of amp do you have. I would think that would also play a part of what kind of sound you are looking for.

click on stomp box pedals. Then choose a pedal and then click on "sound demo".
A wah pedal might be difficult unless you are pretty advanced I would think. I have one that came with a multi effect stomp box. I tried to use it couple times and gave up trying to make any use out of it. Of course I am not very advanced either.

Depends on what you are looking for.
Digitech RP series of multi-effect pedals are pretty good and come in a variety of prices. Zoom is another good maker. Korg muti-effect I don't think is as good as the previous mentioned makers, but that is pretty much just my opinion.
Jrb415 post about a wah wah is dead on too...I've got a Morley wah/volume pedal and Dunlop Crybaby is a great wah too. Harmony Central might have some good reviews to help you decide.
Hope this helps a little.

somethign fun to mess aruond with Delay....forget the wah while its fun its possibilities are nto as limitless as delay use a long fast decaying delay for an echo...or a slow decaying "slap" type delay to get a 32nd picked sound out of 8th notes
very fun for playing arpeggios and stuff. thats my suggestion as far as which pedal I would go with a boss DD-6 if you can find one they stopped making one but if you can find one of the 80's get it regardless of the price it is worth it

i would say the best desicion would be 2 get an effects proccesor it has almost any basic effect youd need the only bad thing is not as much control as a single pedal and usualy not as good sound but it doesnt matter as much if your just playing for fun u dont need a huge amount of pedals that is just my opinion but i get any pedal i cn find- once u get a first, ur going 2 b obsessed

just remember that if you plan on playing live murphys law
in in effect double so simplicity is best. you dont want to be searching for you
sound mid song or mid concert

ive recently switched over to processors. i had the impression that all of them were digital sounding like digitech. but boss changed my mind about that. i now am looking for a boss gt-6. it has pretty much everything i could want.

Civ is absolutly right about live performances and murphy's law.
I've been visited by murphy many times.....
Jim.
PS: dont forget to bring extra duct tape, this is a MUST.

Well if you want a pedal with multi effects, then i would recommend the Zoom G1 series multi-effect pedal. But that is just a suggestion.
