When I lived in a desert climate we used Humidifiers in our acustic guitar bodies to prevent cracking.  I live in a costal region now. Should I continue using Humidifiers? I don't want the wood to get too moist.

Hello again cwarro, well it depends...check your relative humidity where you keep your guitar, in the case and out. If it's around 45 to 60%, I've not had any probs, but if it's a lot higher you might wan't to put your dry humidifier (sound hole type?) in place in the case with the guitar or otherwise to keep it a bit drier than that. Best to monitor the humidity in the case under the neck from what I can tell or if you keep it in a room not in a case, check the room right next to the guitar.  My research was at the Taylor guitar website and I've not had any probs with a guitar getting too wet. Hope this helps. Was in Sequim a few weeks ago btw.

Cheers,

Greetings.

My Taylors have on occasion become TOO humidified... and I can tell pretty quickly because they sound like what we make the dog go outside to do.  But living in the frozen tundra of the north (Illinois & Minnesota) the bigger problem is dryness (easily managed).

I agree that the Taylor site has very comprehensive information on this subject.

Has anybody else noticed the sound of their acoustic degrading with excess humidity?  BTW, excessive dryness has no such effect.

Doin' what sounds good, feels good.

Hello GoWay, I do notice changes in tone with humidity changes but so far I've not allowed my Taylors to become too wet to the point that they sound such as you mentiioned. Yikes. !

Excuse the late late response...I somehow neglected to post you in return.

Cheers,
