I was looking to get a tremolo bar for my les paul, and I found one called Stetsbar. After doing some reading I learned they were very good, but are they really worth $300? That's over half the price of the guitar in the first place :S

Welcome to the board Knightmare...well, if I wanted a trem that cost 300$ and it was a really good one and if I din't feel any pain parting with that much money to have it, I'd get it. But that's just me, your the one that has to live with it so pretty much up to you.
On the other hand, I think I'd get another guitar that has it onboard already or if not, a guitar that was worthy of such a fine trem...am I making any sense at all?

If $300 is more than half what you paid for you LP. I would be looking for another guitar with a Floyd Rose or similar tremolo already installed if you must have a tremolo. Just my opinion though.
On a side note note, I am looking for a Strat. I've play a Strat and a Telecastor a few times (similar necks I think). Man, those things are like butter !! They feel so natural in my hand, like they were made just for me. My fingers just wanted to dance across the fret board. Way easier to play than my LP, me thinks. Has to be the shape of the neck, I'm guessing. Way lighter too. The LP gets really heavy after playing for a couple hours.

generally speaking, les paul's use bigsby tremolos so that routering a giant hole in the face of the lester doesnt damage its tone, since bigsby's sit atop the guitar.
