This is a beginner type question, so I will cross post it in the beginner section as well. I have been learning and practicing the scales, major, minor, pent and blues. In order to play a solo, do I simply pick and choose notes from those scales and play them as I want in whatever order? Because, that's what I'm (sort of) doing, and if that is how it's done, I am not impressed with my solo-ing. I also notice that most solos in rock songs have at least something to do with the melody. Is that just a question of finding  the melody in the scale, and making adjustments?

I found this site yesterday, and have found it very helpful. I thank you for your responses.
