...just about ALL the guitars are good for some reason or another, but some are better VALUES (cost-per-features) than others.

Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, Gretsch, all command high prices, but both Fender (Squire) and Gibson (Epiphone) offer lower priced models of decent quality.

I've been wanting to try a Washburn, or a Dean as long as it's a burst finish.  I really like that look.

The ideal for me isn't so absolute. High end ESPs and Jacksons are both dreams that may forever remain unrealized, so I guess it would be a tie between the two.

for me it would be a close race between a high end Ibanez RG, S or Jem series or high end Jackson

My recent choice as a guitar newbie was fender.
My choice as a leftie who wanted a humbucker in the bridge as a minimum was zero.

They only do standard single coils for lefties.

So I thought I'll get the Tony Iommi Epiphone Signature model, thinking they are bound to do that in left handed as big T is a leftie....................... Wrong. They have stopped doing the leftie version.

I ended up buying a leftie mexican strat and getting it modified with three seymour duncan mini-buckers.
