I believe I can help. Go to the guitar chords section of this site, choose which 9th chord you wish to learn, then if the fingering is too difficult press on the inversions tab in lower right corner and look for an easier fingering pattern amongst the choices it gives.

...as I know you're aware, there are many different ways (inversions) to play 9th chords, so what fingering are you inquiring about?

...here's a "technical theory" point to remember about the 9th chord, it's simply a 7th chord with a 9th note added; and, "...by theory..." it should be positioned above the 7th in pitch, but in reality (guitar players) it gets placed just about anywhere within the chord, hence the many different fingering possibilities).

...numerically, there are at least five different 9th chord shapes possible (one for each of the five CAGED shapes).

Thank you,         I suppose I need to play around more with the chord section.  By the way, this website is simply amazing for musicians to share, and learn from one another....Really glad I "stumbled" apon itBeado-

...one full step (two frets) above a Root (or 8th) note is a 9th note, so to 'make' a C9th chord, simply raise the Root note (on B2-string, fret 1) a full step up (sharp) on a C7th chord and you've got a C9th chord:

C9th chord
E|---+---+-o-+---+  <-- G (5th) ...lay your finger across from G-string to treble E-string
B|-:-+---+-o-+---+  <-- D (9th)...a full step above the "C" Root note at fret 1 ("-:-")
G|---+---+-o-+---+  <-- Bb (7th)
D|---+-o-+---+---+  <-- E (3rd)
A|---+---+-o-+---+  <-- C (R)
E|---+---+-o-+---+  <-- G (5th, not always played)

...that's C9th made from the CAGED C-shape chord. Technically, you only need to add one 9th note to the 7th chord to make it a 9th chord.

...you wanna see how it's done for the E-shape chord?
