Hey everyone.  I'm brand new to this site (the whole guitar world), and I wanted to get a quick opinion.

I just bought my first electric guitar, an Ibanez GRG170DX.  It seemed to be pretty solid, and the salesman figured it would be a good, versatile guitar to "find my own sound" before comiting bigger money to a higher end weapon.

Like a lot f Ibanez product, it looks like a heavy metal machine, more so than a traditional Strat or Tele, but I like that.  It suits me as a "blues guy with a bit of an edge".  It has two humbuckers at the bridge and neck, along with a single coil in the middle.  I find with the middle or bridge pick up, I like the sound for clean notes (mostly learning penatonic and blues scales so far), and for playing (learning to play) chords.

My only problem is that for certain "blues" tones, I'd like a little more of that "strat" or "Tele" sound, especially with a little overdrive kicked in.

I had a couple people suggest tapping, or splitting the coils on the humbuckers.  Does this sound like a reasonable solution?  Or do I need to take a chance the wife won't kill me and buy a second guitar?

Thanks guys,

Vigilante

LOL, and have been around forever. If I'm not mistaken, a Big Muff Pi can be heard on several Beatles songs especially Revolution.

haha yeah.

my friends got one.

the tone isn't quite my thing so i wouldn't use it but that's just because it isn't my style of music and if i do want to play that style i'm happy with an adequete tone that i can muster up on my amp.

nevertheless it does give a good sound if that's the sound you are going for.
