I have two years of high-school left, and I don't want to waste time in college because I know it's not for me. (I'm not a total idiot. I will be taking a few college business courses)

I've been strongly considering a career as a professional luthier. It's my ideal to attend either the roberto-venn school of luthiery, or the summit school for guitar building and repair. I'd rather go to summit. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this career field, and what it will be like starting off. I know i'll most likely have to start out working in a shop somewhere before getting a job at a fender or gibson factory (or something to that extent.) Eventually I'd like to go into business for myself, too. so my question is a very open ended one. is there anyone with experience or general knowledge on this subject that can help me? please.

Sorry, I have small skill as a luthier, but no idea whatsoever about the life of one.

Hey, Austin,

This would be a good question to post on the acoustic guitar forum. There are about a dozen luthiers on that forum who are very helpful with advice, etc.

I visit three guitar forums and they all have something different to offer.

Good luck on your adventure!
