Hello! I'm fairly new to playing guitar, I've been around them and awesome music all my life and decided to start playing. I got an acoustic to learn on and this christmas I'm hoping to get an electric. All of my friends who have been playing for a long time recommend Ibanez as they're good for their price and great for beginners? Is this true or not? Please post your opinion.

The fact of the matter is that it' all about preference. Most brands of guitars have everything from lower end economy guitars to expensive high end guitars, including Ibanez. Ibanez has everything from around a hundred bucks to more than a thousand.
Even if you have decided on a price range, then you have body shape, neck shape, scale length, pick up configuration, tone, quality, etc. etc to consider. Other things to consider is what kind of music do you like to play, Do you want something that has a wide range of tone options for versatility. A Stratacaster type or a Les Paul type guitars are both pretty versatile. Both come in models from a few hundred to a few thousand bucks. Ibanez makes a few good models as well.
Going to somewhere like a Guitar Center, or somewhere where you can try a bunch out before you buy is never bad advice. You will also need an amp. So the same advice applies. Try a bunch out in your price range.

I'll probably be playing metal / harder rock. And I sort of figured I would need an amp. >.> But thanks anyway.

Ibanez are excellent quality guitars even the low budget ones.
