We know who your guys' favorite guitar player is but what about artists/bands,

Mine would have to Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Guns n' Roses and any ambiant jazz beat.

And though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you've got to dodge
And it's allright ma, I can make it

Heh, they are some of the best Jazz guitarists. All great, you should check them out.
That said, jazz is not the only kind of "real music".

Oh I agree, the music of today is horrible. Just sayin' Classical and older Rock music are great too. They fall under the "real music" title also.

Nah, I'm still pretty young. I just don't like all the newer music that comes out these days. Its awful, cliche'd(sp?) crap. No originality, no talent no MUSIC.

Yeah I dig Jazz, but I always get new and fresh ideas from the young musicians of today.

Though I have favorite guitar players and guitar-associated artists(guitartists?)my favorite musicians have not been guitarists per se. Adding the placard "music historian" to your desk and going back to earlier music(and some world music- the Indian ragas and tabla regiments are thousands of years old...)yields some nuggets that are truly astounding. For example, before Bach there was linear modal melody exclusively(call it "chant") and use of adjacent tritones(a flatted fifth interval: from the E, A or D strings, play an additional note one string, one fret up- essentially a power chord minus one fret on the top)might just get you burned at the stake as a heretic. They called it "Diabola Musica." So we have Bach to thank for a great many things. Start there. Move through Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin(my favorite), Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Ravel, and at Stravinsky realize it's getting a little weird in here so we'd better respond in kind hence the aleatoric anti-music that followed ol' Igor. The jazz musicians made academia in music cool again, the blues borne from the Mississippi Delta brought African rhythms to the States, and social upheaval and war affected all.
There are so many great artists in all kinds of music on all instruments; I wonder if a great number of guitarists sell themselves short by passing by non-guitar music. After all, someone influenced the first guitarist, no? It's not a very old instrument.
