Yes, I agree. Many players miss out on incredible music, simply because they are too close-minded to explore outside their favorite type of music. Oh and..my favorites are Beethoven and Rachmaninoff.

Though I have favorite guitar players and guitar-associated artists(guitartists?)my favorite musicians have not been guitarists per se. Adding the placard "music historian" to your desk and going back to earlier music(and some world music- the Indian ragas and tabla regiments are thousands of years old...)yields some nuggets that are truly astounding. For example, before Bach there was linear modal melody exclusively(call it "chant") and use of adjacent tritones(a flatted fifth interval: from the E, A or D strings, play an additional note one string, one fret up- essentially a power chord minus one fret on the top)might just get you burned at the stake as a heretic. They called it "Diabola Musica." So we have Bach to thank for a great many things. Start there. Move through Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin(my favorite), Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Ravel, and at Stravinsky realize it's getting a little weird in here so we'd better respond in kind hence the aleatoric anti-music that followed ol' Igor. The jazz musicians made academia in music cool again, the blues borne from the Mississippi Delta brought African rhythms to the States, and social upheaval and war affected all.
There are so many great artists in all kinds of music on all instruments; I wonder if a great number of guitarists sell themselves short by passing by non-guitar music. After all, someone influenced the first guitarist, no? It's not a very old instrument.
Sorry. I fell asleep after first few words.

Actually, it was directed to the previous poster. Brevity is making a statement with the fewest possible words. All those strings of letters may have tired out the stalwart poster who felt it was necessary to impugn someone for writing more words than he wanted to see.

Nah, I'm still pretty young. I just don't like all the newer music that comes out these days. Its awful, cliche'd(sp?) crap. No originality, no talent no MUSIC.
Wel man , afcourse there is no originality when those guys like Jimi and Eric and Page and all other hipies and musicians did all the rock could offer them , but it dosen't mean that today rock will not offer anything.Today rock will not offer the same things he offerd to Jimmy Page but he will offer something newer to someone younger . So i am saying we should not have enother Page or Hendrix , we should have someone different, maybe we would like that different music , maybe we would not .But at least we have to try . Those guys back in 60's had country music dominating and they built ROCK AND ROLL from nothing, becouse they were originall , they weren't copying country singers , no they did they're own music . SO I am saying that we should rebuild the rock and roll. After all we have more now then they had back then . We have all those rockers alive and kicking.
And technology is offering us more then back in 60's. so LONG LIVE ROCK N' ROLL !!!!!!!!
PS : Favourite bands are : LED ZEPPELIN , DEEP PURPLE , JIMI HENDRIX , ERIC JOHNSON ,DAIRE STRAITS, ERIC CLAPTON , BOB DYLAN ,JOHNNY CASH , VAI , SATCH , EAGLES , SKYNARD and all those 60' and 70' Hippi bands !!!!!!!

What about Bach !!! Bach i certainlly the most inovative all time musician . He is even now played by others and he lived 400 years ago !!!
Think about it . Nobody is better than Bach , Beetoven , Mozart and they lived 400 - 200 years ago !!!! And they never will be second to someone , becouse they will always be the first !!!! It's same thing with Hendrix !!!Long Live Rock and Roll !!!!! or should i say LONG LIVE BAROQUE AND ROLL !!!
PS : PURPLE HAZE Is a very easy song(for kindergarden) , and someone need the tabs , so brother in axe , i will send you tab via EMAIL if you need !!!or you can check the net !!!!

My fav's are Dave Matthews Band, CCR, Coldplay, ACDC, Eagles, RHCP, Dylan, Nelson, Young and Jimmy. I also enjoy most of the other 70's rock gods... There are few out there who still offer the southern rock style. Check out Cross Canadian Ragweed, they more than get the job done in that arena....
