Hi
I am not a beginner any more i can play many songs that i like to play. these days I am concentrating on learning music language.
I have learned many signs and their meanings but still don‚Äôt know how to use them on a guitar. I know that "whole note" has fore beats , and‚Äù half beat" has two beats but still don‚Äôt know  how to play it on a guitar I am confused about the beats. Please if any one can answer my problem.
Actually I am having problem in understanding the beats and rests I am totally new to music language. I am reading a book it tells all about the notes but I can’t understand the meaning of beats and rests kindly tell me how to play a beat on the guitar
Can any body please recommend me any useful e-books or any useful websites for learning music theory that might help in playing guitar.

Most songs are written in common time (4/4), which means that there are four beats in a measure.  A beat is a tool used for counting to keep you in the right spot in a song.  This means that for each measure you count "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3,4, etc." at a constant speed (tempo).  Each time you get to 4 you have counted a whole measure and are about to start a new measure.  If a song is written in 3/4 time, you do the same thing, but only count to 3 for each measure.  So when you are playing guitar and come upon a note such as a half note at the beginning of a measure, you play the note, letting it ring, and count "1, 2" at a steady tempo in your head.  Once you get to beat 3, the half note ends.  For now, I would suggest finding some easy sheet music written in 4/4 time and practice what I have just told you.  Good luck!
