Hello, I've been playing guitar for a few months and recently got an electric guitar.  My favorite band of all time is Nirvana.  Kurt is a legend and my idol smile.  For most of his songs and solos, he had a unique distorted sound.  Can someone "advise" me, so-to-speak, on what to purchase to get this distortion that so many bands these days use?  Or at least point me in the right direction?  I love distortion and it's killing me that i can't get that awesome sound sad.

compaq,

Although I'm not a Nirvana fan, I do recall reading somewhere that the guitar he used was a highly modified
fender jaguar.
Ya might to google him, or the fender jaguar. I think i read about this in one of hits I got on "fender jaguar".
Since I own a 1969 jaguar, I did alot of research on it.

It sounds like you're using an amp already, so a pedal may very well be the way to go. I think I remember reading that Kurt used Mesa preamps. Mesa gear has a difficult sound to reproduce without going Mesa. Basically they have a very deep and aggressive tone.

I'd try out the Digitech Hardwire pedals. From what I've heard from clips they sound great and are very dynamic.

Try to find a guitar and amp like yours, or take yours in if you can, and give them a shot. There are others too that may be good. Don't try to get Kurt's tone. It's better (and a lot more fun) to find your own tone.

Also don't be afraid to try other stuff. There's a lot of great sounding stuff out there and it's fun to experiment with a lot of it.
