I got educated on the chords and fingerpicking style for Stairway To Heaven"  the lesson? I am inpatient and tend to rush through the chords thus not sounding clean and just outright sloppy.......

Cavett-..well when you mention the National Anthem and talk about playin it in any unorthodox way, you immediately get hate mail....
Hendrix- I didnt think it was unorthodox, I thought it was beautifull.....but there you go

I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes.

....Also Im having trouble with my left hand positioning while changing chords or trying to barre chord, this can be VERY frustrating and makes chancho wanna quit for the day or just drift off into "doodling with the strings" mode

whenever I decide I "suck" at what I'm doing........I walk away for a while. Usually when I go back to it, I miraculously get better.  Then I LAUGH.  Keep it FUN!!!

Oh yea !!! nothing wrong with that from time to time.. I get inspired from just "doodling" with strings. Ive come up with few cool licks this way.

All practice and no fun turns a lot beginners off. A lot of folks just give up or have a lot of false starts.

Think of it this way.... Doodling can be considered practice. It is "finger time" after all. For me a good balance is working on fundamentals (work) and doodling (fun).

You will discover that as your work on fundamentals improve, so will your doodling..  Your "doodling" will not sound like "just doodling"  after a while.

cool Hey Petey,
Your so right about the doodeling. I have been playing for 3 months now and I can't get enough. Just lost my job on Thursday and now I will have more time to play! It sucks not having a job but playing the guitar is the positive of that situation.
"Can't u see" is the song I started playing at first. real simple. I did that along with " A horse with no name" to get some muscle memory started in my fingers. "Horse" was cool because the whole thing is played in the second fret! I started with the first 2 chords and then eventually picked up the last 2.Anyway I just found this site and it is awesome and I will occupy a lot of my time here I believe.
Talk at you later, Play your fingers off!
