Thinking about getting this

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … 515619#new

In the specs it says 2 volume control, 1 tone w/ coil tap, 3-way pick-up selector

I only see 2 knobs and the selector. The two knobs I'm assuming are one volume knob for each pickup. And the selector is just the pickup selector. So where does the 1 tone w/ coil tap come in? And it says that you can coil-tap both pickups, so shouldn't there be a switch for each one or something?

Well, I found out the answer minutes after I posted it. It's one tone knob and one volume knob that is a push-pull coil splitter. I'm not going to delete this though in case someone else has the same question. And I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this guitar. Looks great on paper, good wood, well reviewed pickups. And cool finish and inlays.

i have an sg clone its by s-101 i paid like 175 for it i also have a 700 gretsch that i love but to be honest i find my  self reaching for the sg alot because of its utilityof shape and weight. it sits in your lap well and the balance is good when you strap it on. stop tailpiece bridges are thebest design of all thats why so many use it. well thats my 2 cents worth.
mine has a bolt on neck and it is the one thing i would change on it because it is sensitive and the tuners are low end but on an epi i bet things are a little better but you may want to look at these features.
is the epi neck through body?

Every rule has an exception. Especially this one.
if my calculations are correct SLINKY + ESCULATOR = EVERLASTING FUN

It's a set-in and grover tuners. A set-in is good enough for me, not looking to spend a bunch of money. The only bad thing about the guitar is that the nearest store with epies is an hour away and my fiance won't let me take her car to try it out because of the possibility that I won't buy it. She just doesn't understand. I youtubed it so I've already heard it, but I want to feel it. Anyone know if other SGs or anything else will feel similar?

Hello moniker and welcome to chordbook if i haven't done that already. I found something i'd hate to hear you found out about after buying the SG GX. Check this out...  http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars.aspx

Found this by looking around in the link you posted...note the price for a new Gibson SG ! !  Oh, be sure to read some of the reviews too....this may be hard for me to pass up.

Not that the SG GX isn't a fine guitar, but it looks like the Gibson may be similarly price since it is a 'stripped' down model from the looks of the specs and text. Also, thanks...your post got my mind off an LP and onto the SG because of the differences in the neck.

Hey zen, thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out when I get off work (no speakers here). Seem very similar except for the pickups, I'll have to listen to them side by side and see what I think.

Glad to help moniker and i guess if it came down to it, a body could change the pups then any differences would be in tone wood i imagine. I wanna go handle one of those Gibsons before they run out of them at that price....

Cheers,
